Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is a safety glass that is produced through sandwiching two or more sheets of standard float glass or tempered glass together around layers of transparent plastic such as polyvinyl butryl (called PVB) or ethylene-vinyl acetate (called EVA) laminate. Due to the adhesion of PVB glue film, even when the glass breaks, its pieces keep binding on the PVB film and will not cause danger, and the surface of the fragmented glass remains smooth, which eventually prevents broken pieces from penetrating or falling, resulting in more safety.
Composition and Production
Laminated glass is made by putting PVB (polyvinyl butyral) as a plastic interlayer between two sheets of glass, and simultaneous heating, pressing results in a flat or curved compound glass product. The glass sheet for making laminated glass can be float glass, tempered glass, colored glass, heat-absorbing glass or heat-reflecting glass or other kinds as per required application. Laminated glass provides good transparency while providing a higher impact resistance effect comparing to normal glass sheet.
Supply of Iran Laminated Glass
Iran, as a major manufacturer of Float Glass, has a tremendous infrastructure to produce any processed glass product, including Laminated Glass. Availability of raw material combined with vast investments in glass processing procedures have provided a variety of Laminated glass supply on quality and price both from Iran.
Iran Laminated glass sizes are a derivative of the float glass sizes; therefore, the same sizing can be applied in addition to any customized cuts from these sizes requested by clients.
2.14 x 3.21 | 2.14 x 3.05 | 2.25 x 3.21 | 2.44 x 3.21 |
1.22 x 1.83 | 1.22 x 2.44 | 1.83 x 2.44 | 2.25 x 1.605 |
As for the Plastic Interlayer, PVB is most common in Iran both available domestic and imported material while use of other resins could be ordered based on customers’ requests.
Two Major parameters in considering Laminated Glass are Size (for optimum cutting to achieve minimum waste and maximum area) and PVB thickness which provides a higher quality to the Lamination process.
At Zista Group, we are proud to be a supplier of Laminated Glass from reputable sources with extremely tight quality procedures. Also based on client application, we are in position to suggest the most economical/suitable compound to produce Laminated Glass and supply the client based on customized requests.
Laminated Glass Applications
Laminated Glass is capable of resisting consecutive striking by weapons such as hammers and wood-cutting blades and also to resist the penetration of bullets for a certain period of time.
Applying PVB as interlayer film provide sound blockage properties assisting in creating calm and ambient spaces. UV filtration function of Laminated Glass not only protects skin but also prevents important and precious furniture and artworks from fading. Laminated Glass also reduces energy waste through decrease of light transmission.
Laminated glass is safe even when broken. Hit by a heavy touch, it is less likely to break into fragments, as the whole block of glass retains consistency and debris and sharp fragments keep binding with the PVB in the middle. For this characteristic, it is generally applied to doors, windows, and skylights of high buildings, and showcases and partitions in stores, banks, jewelry stores, and many others.
In general, Laminated glass could be use for:
- Buildings with high risk of Natural Disasters such bas hurricane
- As windows for places with higher risk of break-ins
- Display cabinets for valuables, such as jewelry shops
- Aquariums
- Glass Floors
- Glass Stairs
- Skylights
- Glass Roofs
- Tennis Paddle Courts
